The Big Bang The Big Bang is our strongest theory of how our universe was created, our proof for this relies on the redshift of the universe, the cosmic microwave background, and the life cycle of stars. These three topics our chemistry team has modelled and explained each in our own way, so you the reader can have a better understanding of where we came from. Redshift The Big Bang began 13.7 billion years ago everything in the universe was concentrated into a single point of infinite density and mass. The point expanded quickly, and scientists think the universe is still expanding today. To understand how scientists know this we need to look at something called the Doppler effect. You know when a motorcycle is coming toward you, it gets really loud, but when it passes you it gets quieter. That is because when the motorcycle comes toward you, the sound waves its emitting are faster and more dense, and when it moves away from you the sound waves are longer and slower. Turns out the same thing happens to light and stars. When a star is moving toward you, the light waves are denser and faster, and when light waves are smaller, the light appears bluer. But when the star is moving away from you, the light waves are longer and slower and the light appears red. Cosmic Microwave Background This is my video for the second model. The video explains what the cosmic microwave background (or CMB) is how the it was discovered, and how the cosmic microwave background is of the strongest pieces of evidence that supports the Big Bang Theory. Since the video covers all these topics (and more) I won’t go into further depth except to say I would like to put a disclaimer. In the video I use clips from other YouTube videos, they are in no way mine nor will I claim they are, EXCEPT it is my voice recorded over the borrowed clips. The Steady State theory said that matter was created at a constant rate as the universe expanded, so the density of the universe was always the same. The Big Bang theory however said that the density of the universe has not changed, so then it must have began with one point of infinite density. Two scientists thought that if the Big Bang was real, there had to be background radiation left over from the event. So the Cosmic Microwave Background was discovered, and they discovered it by accident and came to the conclusion that it must be the leftover radiation from the Big Bang. “The Cosmic Microwave Background is left over radiation from the Big Bang. The CMB formed around 380,000 years after the Big Bang, and as the Universe expanded and cooled, the CMB expanded and cooled down as well. Maps of the CMB today show that the distribution is uniform and the CMB stays at about 2.7 degrees Kelvin. However there are some changes in density and temperature. Why are these dense pockets in the CMB important? These dense areas have a strong gravitational pull, and after billions of years they evolved through gravitational attraction into the first stars and galaxies.” Density is =massvolume Life Cycle Of Stars Redshift-Francisco Siporia Gutierrez Cosmic Microwave Background- Isabel de Blois and Yiellsee Chavez Life Cycle of Stars -Marifer Oritz
