Art piece: Me and my teammate are envisioning of recreating the art piece ‘ The Great Wave of Kanagawa’. Since once of the requirements is that we can’t do any type of traditional style of art such as drawing or painting, my teammate and I have decided to recreate the painting using plastic wrappers. The timeline of creating the piece shouldn’t take long, I just need to get a poster board, I could easily find one at school, and outline the waves. What we mainly have to do is-as weird as this sounds- is the process of collecting as many white, and dark and light blue wrappers. What We Hope the Audience Will Take Away : Plastic is a really big cause of pollution- plastic breaks down in the ocean and is ingested by seabirds, and humans will as well be affected by the toxins- and since plastic can be so difficult to recycle (although possible always check if it is ) this would be a great way to reuse it. To recreate the waves, instead of using paints or pencils we will use the wrappers and glue them down into the outline drawn on the poster board. I also want to keep some type of chart, diagram, chart, whichever, to show how little (hopefully ) it took for us to collect that much plastic to show our everyday consumption of it, and I really do hope people will take this into account, and limit their reduce their use of plastic, since not only is it a place that humans and creatures depend on, but the ocean is a place I also love. This is still being decided, it depends on our time, but we have thought of also collecting some type ofblack wrappers or plastic to represent an oil spill, another huge cause of pollution, in our art-piece. We will present this during our project presentation explain our thought process behind it , in hope to really push peoples thinking on pollution.

New Tech is built on a foundation of trust, respect, and responsibility, so as you can guess being a student at the school you possess a lot of responsibility. We are aloud off campus, we don't need hall passes and in general are allowed a lot more freedom than others attending high school, and in return we are to be responsible with those privileges.
But to me being a New Tech student means something more. I knew even before I came here that New Tech just seemed different both academically -and not because of the project based learning- and socially. And after spending several weeks here I think I have figured out what that difference is, and its the students. Most of them. It doesn't just feel like the school crammed a bunch of hormonal teens into classrooms, it feels like a community of accepting people (including the staff members) who want to grow and learn. And I personally don't know whether its just the "type"of people New Tech attracts, or if the people here are responsible and know to respect others I'm still figuring that out, but I have four more years for that... but I do know that I think I made the right choice in coming here. Hey guys I recently just joined a new school, New Tech High which is a school that encourages its students to learn through collaboration-meaning its group orientated. As you can imagine this means when I get new groups, there is always the possibility that I don't know anyone. So I thought I would share some of my tips on how to connect with your team. #1 Introduce Yourself. This ones pretty simple, but just start out by acknowledging your teammates with a simple hello and introducing yourself to each member. #2 Share Your Contact Information, so some teachers have group contracts that require you and your team to put in your emails and numbers. But if the teacher does not require it, it's always good in general to exchange contact information with one another, so you are available to your team in case any members have questions concerning the project. #3 Listen to your team members input, make sure to always listen to what others have to say. Though you may not always agree, let your teammates share their ideas, input, and feedback. Its very important to make your teammates feel like they have a voice and a say in things. #4 Find a way to personally connect. Make sure to talk about things outside of your project, don't get too off task because class time is VALUABLE and not to ask about anything to personal. (Basically don't ask about their darkest secrets as an ice breaker.) But just something that lets y'all have some type of connection other than the project and your school work, like maybe their interests or how their weekend was. This is a very short and simple post, there is probably more tips out there, but here are the main points that I personally chose and think, that will help you the most in making a connection with your team.
